DEREK'S BLOG...

Stock shortage looming = Price rise Stock shortage looming = Price rise
Its been very difficult to buy quality car's in Japan at a viable price in the past 6-8 weeks. All the other NZ dealers I talk to say the same thing. Our agents in Japan are very frustrated as they can't compete with the domestic market at the moment. Ultimately this will mean less cars for sale in NZ in the up coming months which will firm up prices here. The recession has meant less vehicle's are being traded in Japan so less are available at auctions where we all compete for the vehicle's. The kiwi dollar is sitting around Y59 = $1 (down from Y65) which is not helping. Many of the prices I see advertised in NZ at present are below replacement value which can't continue. Margins in car sales are slim so there is no room to absorb higher purchasing costs. It might be a good time to buy now especially with GST increase coming also which will be largley absorbed by car dealers not passed on like a supermarket will.
